Le but de MGC@Home est l’étude de la Méningocoque C (Neisseria meningitidis), qui est, avec l’Haemophilus Influenzae de type B, la bactérie qui cause la méningite tant redoutée, ainsi que d’autres maladies graves comme la septicémie. Méningocoque peut causer des dommages irréversibles, voire la mort.
Sa transmission est très simple, les sécrétions nasales, la salive, les éternuements ou encore la toux en sont des transporteurs, ou encore simplement embrasser un ami ou partager une bière dans un bar. Jusqu’à présent nous avons été protégés grâce aux vaccins pris à 2, 4, 6 et 18 mois, qui empêchent la bactérie de se propager.
Toutefois, il a été récemment constaté que l’effet du vaccin (qui a déterminé la stratégie de vaccination ci-dessus) n’était pas conforme aux attentes, car il est très dépendant de l’âge où il est appliqué, ce qui nous conduit à deux questions d’un grand intérêt:
Premièrement, l’effet du vaccin est faible chez les adolescents, un âge particulièrement critique;
et deuxièmement, cela nous oblige à considérer de nouvelles stratégies de vaccination.

We are currently working in the development of the Meningococo algorithm, found some problems so launch will be delayed some weeks, but would like to have it online before end of this year.
